Visiting brilliant local employers is one of the best parts of being the Scottish Borders MP.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of those thriving enterprises when I popped in to see the team at Abbey Tool and Gauge in Kelso.

It’s vital that we support Borders College to provide opportunities for young people and fill local skills gaps for businesses.

But this year, Borders College has received a real terms cut to their budget from the SNP Government.

Last week, Number 10 Downing Street hosted the Local Media Champions reception to celebrate local journalists from across the United Kingdom and thank them for their work. 

I recently had the pleasure of visiting R&K Drysdales near Cockburnspath.

During the visit, I received a tour of the plant and learnt more about their innovative methods which has led them to become one of the UK’s largest Brussel sprout producers. 

One of the most pressing issues facing Borders residents is the lack of access to reliable and efficient public transport.

I was honoured to represent Scotland at the annual Tartan Week parade through New York City last week, where I donned the Doddie Weir tartan to march through Manhattan.

A group of mums have managed to reopen a Duns nursery that was expected to close.

The new Duns Community Nursery opened on 3 April after parents set up a not-for-profit company to take over the building lease and retain the original staff. 

The new Hike and Bike Hub in Galashiels is doing fantastic work to promote active travel across the Scottish Borders.

Last week, despite convincing only one in three SNP members that he was the right man for the job, Humza Yousaf was nominated as the SNP Party Leader and Scotland’s new First Minister.

A festival of volunteering has been announced to mark the Coronation of King Charles. To celebrate, I am hosting the Scottish Borders Community Volunteer of the Year Awards. 

Volunteers are the backbone of the Scottish Borders community.
