Lamont welcomes rejection of controversial council boundary changes

The Scottish Government has announced today (Wednesday 14th September) that it will not implement controversial changes to the Scottish Borders Council ward areas. 

The news comes after local MSP John Lamont has repeatedly called for the proposals to be rejected by Scottish Ministers.

A guaranteed minimum speed for all broadband customers in the UK took a step closer to reality today as the Digital Economy Bill is set to be voted on in the House of Commons today (Tuesday 13th September).

Lamont warns against rural school closure

Scottish Borders Council has announced it will start a wide-ranging review of its school provision across the region, against a background of “ongoing financial challenges.”

The review comes as the Council’s budget has been slashed by £8.9m by the SNP Government in the past year alone.

Lamont welcomes launch of new Hawick Paper

A new paper will launch in the Scottish Borders this week.

The Hawick Paper, edited by Jason Marshall, will be on sale weekly in the town.

Local MSP John Lamont has wished the team well and lodged a Parliamentary motion highlighting the importance of local media.
