After the UK has left the EU, we will be able to operate a fully independent trade policy. The Department for International Trade is examining options to ensure continued access to trade agreements negotiated by the European Union which the UK is already party to. The Trade Bill is about enabling the UK to transition trade agreements that currently exist between the EU and other countries, and which we are party to through our EU membership.
I firmly believe that our approach to developing our future trade policy must be transparent and inclusive. I can assure you that the Government will ensure Parliament has an appropriate role to play in the scrutiny of new UK trade treaties. All treaties are scrutinised and examined by Parliament.
This Parliamentary oversight will extend to any future deal with the United States. The Government is currently conducting research and analysis into potential trade deals with a range of countries.
