Let me be clear that I have complete confidence in the civil service. I am proud that we are envied across the world for the high standards of our civil servants. I am encouraged that ministers have reiterated that civil servants are extremely valued and their objectivity is respected. We need to make sure we continue to attract the best into the civil service.
I am encouraged that the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 enshrines in legislation the core principles and values of the Civil Service, which include honesty, impartiality, integrity and objectivity. These values are also set out in the Civil Service Code and are upheld by civil servants across the country.
I hope this reassures you that my colleagues in Government and I are entirely supportive of the civil service and grateful for the hard work of civil servants to create an internationally admired system.
