NHS Staffing & Bursaries

The training of nurses in Scotland is a devolved issue and the bursary in Scotland will be rising to £10,000 per year from next year.

Nevertheless, Scottish hospitals are short of 2,400 nurses and midwives, and the workforce is getting golder with the proportion of staff aged over 50 increasing to 38.5%.

To increase the number of NHS staff, and increase the number of those who are training to become a health professional, we must look at how we can support the health and wellbeing of NHS and social care staff, to look after those who look after us. My Scottish Conservative MSP colleague believe our focus should be on ways to improve the working environment in the NHS, like better mental health support, free parking, and other ways to help them focus on what they do best – care for patients.
