Lamont warns against rural school closure

Scottish Borders Council has announced it will start a wide-ranging review of its school provision across the region, against a background of “ongoing financial challenges.”

The review comes as the Council’s budget has been slashed by £8.9m by the SNP Government in the past year alone.

The Hawick Paper, edited by Jason Marshall, will be on sale weekly in the town.

Borders roads on course to be the worst in Scotland

A new report has found that roads in the Borders are set to become the worst in the whole of Scotland.

Figures from Audit Scotland’s “Maintaining Scotland’s Roads” report show that almost a half of roads maintained by the council are in an unacceptable condition.
