Borders MP John Lamont is seeking a meeting with broadband provider GoFibre over the installation of telegraph poles in Tweedbank which locals say were installed without consultation or warning.
The poles were installed around Stobshaw Place recently but already, the vast majority of local residents have signed a petition stating they were not consulted, would not have agreed if they were consulted, and now want the poles to be removed.
Borders MP John Lamont said: "I have been contacted by many residents in Tweedbank who are deeply unhappy about these telegraph poles appearing in their community without what they believe was proper consultation.
"While everyone recognises the importance of improving broadband connectivity, local people should not feel that decisions affecting their neighbourhood have been imposed on them without warning or engagement.
"The strength of feeling is clear from the number of residents who have signed this petition. I have therefore requested a meeting with GoFibre to discuss these concerns directly and to understand why local residents feel they were not properly consulted.
"I will continue to support local people and press the company to provide answers and consider the concerns that have been raised."
