Public feels betrayed by Labour broken promises

Please see a comment from John Lamont MP following his speech in Parliament last night on the petition, signed by more than one million people including over 1,000 in the Borders, calling for a General Election.

Borders MP John Lamont said: “The scale of this petition, within just two years of the formation of a new government, should set alarm bells ringing for Sir Keir Starmer.

“The public feels betrayed by the litany of promises broken by Labour since they were elected on a mandate to deliver change.

"The only change has been for the worse as the economy has stagnated and opportunities to get ahead have dried up.

“The government must reflect on the scale of this petition. It is a clear judgement on Sir Keir Starmer’s lack of a coherent plan for the future of the country and the economic chaos inflicted on workers and businesses by Rachel Reeves.

“If bills keep going up, the public’s trust in Labour will keep going down.”

I regularly hear from local residents who are very frustrated by the sheer number of energy projects that are being proposed near our towns and villages.
