MP makes case for more integrated transport for the Borders
Local MP John Lamont has met with Sharon Morrison, Commercial Manager at West Coast Motors, to make the case directly for a better integrated transport system for the Borders.
At the meeting, arranged to discuss the concerns of constituents, John also heard about plans by Borders Buses to further improve their fleet and routes.
One of John’s priorities is to ensure that buses are properly linked up with the east coast mainline and Borders railway to ensure Borderers and tourists are able to get around by public transport.
Speaking after the meeting, John Lamont MP said: “On the whole, I’ve been impressed with the way in which West Coast Motors have taken on and improved bus routes in the Borders. I think they have a good understanding of the importance of local routes and a real desire to improve the service in the coming years.
“I am determined that more needs to be done in the Borders to better integrate our transport system. Borders Buses recognise people are increasingly using various modes of transport and are showing a commitment to providing a modern transport offering for both visiting and local customers.
“It was really good to hear about the plans Borders Buses have for new vehicles and new routes. I was impressed by their knowledge of the local area so soon after they acquired the routes from First Buses.
“A number of constituents have contacted me about their local bus service and after meeting with Sharon, I am confident that their views will be looked at closely.”
Sharon Morrison, Commercial Manager at West Coast Motors said: “We are proud to serve the Borders and beyond and are pleased our efforts to deliver a reliable, modern and frequent bus service in the area are recognised by Mr Lamont. We also take on board his feedback from constituents.
“Like any business we are always looking at ways to improve our offering and regularly engage with customers and the communities we serve to ensure we are providing a service which meets their travel requirements.”
“With this in mind we are currently examining our network, trialling a range of high specification vehicles on key lines of route plus developing a mobile app which will allow customers to track their bus.”
