A new paper will launch in the Scottish Borders this week.
The Hawick Paper, edited by Jason Marshall, will be on sale weekly in the town.
Local MSP John Lamont has wished the team well and lodged a Parliamentary motion highlighting the importance of local media.
John Lamont MSP said: “Hawick is a very proud town and it is great that it is getting a new publication.
“Local newspapers are a really important part of our community, particularly in the Borders. They're one of the best sources of information about what's happening in the area and, of course, they have a vital role to play in holding locally elected officials to account.
“People are increasingly accessing news from a variety of sources, but there will always be a role to play by high quality local media. With the launch of The Hawick Paper, it is great to see journalism in the Scottish Borders has a bright future.”
John added: “Nevertheless, publications like this can only exist with the support of local people, so I would urge everyone in the Borders to make the effort to buy their local papers as often as possible.”
