Borders MP John Lamont has spoken of the ‘fantastic opportunities’ available for young people as he visits the Borders Technical Training Association’s (BTTA) new engineering training facility in Tweedbank.
BTTA works with employers to take on apprentices and provide approved support, assessment and verification for Modern Apprenticeships in engineering, equipping trainees with the skills and knowledge needed to build a successful career in industry.
Research shows that across Scotland, among employers who were not currently offering apprenticeships but planned to start, the majority saw them as a way of acquiring talent (79%). This includes half (50%) who viewed them as a good way to recruit skilled staff, and 29% who saw them as a way to ensure young people continue to enter their industry or organisation.
Borders MP John Lamont said:
“Apprenticeships are so important – they give people the skills they need for work, and we have some brilliant employers in the Borders offering fantastic opportunities.
“It was great to see the Borders Technical Training Association’s new engineering training facility, which will provide excellent equipment for people to learn the skills they need for the future.
“There are some fantastic opportunities available for young people across the Borders, and we must continue to support employers to take on apprentices."
