Pub goers across the Borders are being encouraged to help select a nominee for ‘Parliamentary Pub of the Year.’
MPs from across the UK are nominating the best pub in their constituency to battle it out for the title of Parliamentary Pub of the Year. The competition seeks to promote the role pubs play in local communities and recognise a worthy winner for the award.
The main criteria for the competition is that the pub is “great at what it does” which can include its range of beers, food, warmest welcome or a special community contribution.
Local MP John Lamont is urging constituents to get in touch with him to nominate their chosen pub. Nominations should be sent to john.lamont.mp@parliament.uk before 20th September 2018. Alternatively people can write to John at his constituency office (25 High Street, Hawick, TD9 9BU) or phone a nomination in (01450 375948).
John Lamont MP said: “There are plenty of really great pubs in the Scottish Borders, so instead of me choosing one, I’m calling on locals to nominate their favourite.
“This competition highlights the positive impact our pubs have on jobs and communities. In my constituency, the beer and pub sector supports around 800 jobs but more than that, pubs are a focal point for so many communities.
“Nominees will be judged for being great at whatever they do, so that could be offering quality local beers, giving back to the community or just being the most welcoming.
“It would be fantastic for the area if one of our pubs won the award. If you think your favourite would be a worthy winner, please get in touch via email at john.lamont.mp@parliament.uk or write to me or call my constituency office.”
