Borders MP John Lamont has met the UK Government’s Energy Minister to call for action to address ongoing concerns around heating oil prices for households across the Scottish Borders.

The MP has been contacted by residents who continue to raise serious concerns about the dramatic increase in heating oil prices and the impact on rural communities, with prices having at least doubled since the outbreak of war in the Middle East.

John Lamont also raised the issue in the House of Commons with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, urging the Government to take action to support those who rely on heating oil.

The local MP has also launched a Heating Oil Survey, asking local residents to share their views and experiences so that data about the scale of the impact can be fed directly to the UK Government. People can take part by visiting JohnLamont.org/HeatingOil.

Borders MP John Lamont said:

“Since the heating oil price spike, I have been listening to constituents and campaigning to make sure they get the support they need.

“Following the outbreak of war in the Middle East, heating oil prices have at least doubled for many. This is a particular issue in the Borders, where many homes in our rural communities rely on heating oil to keep warm.

“I was pleased to meet with the Energy Minister, alongside making the case to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, to push for action to support households across the Borders.

“I would urge everyone to take part in my survey so I can put the concerns of local people directly to the UK Government.”
