John Lamont MP met with leading charity Breast Cancer Care at the House of Commons this week to support the launch of Afternoon Tea, the charity’s annual summer fundraising campaign. He is encouraging constituents to join in to support those affected by breast cancer.
The event raised awareness of the charity’s ‘Afternoon Tea’, where people are encouraged to get together with friends, family or colleagues in July to raise vital funds for the UK’s leading breast cancer support charity.
All of the money raised at Afternoon Teas up and down the country will enable Breast Cancer Care to continue to be there to provide free care, support and information to those affected by breast cancer.
John Lamont MP said: “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK today with 62,000 women and men diagnosed each year, but through the hard work of charities like Breast Cancer Care, more and more people are surviving their cancer diagnosis.
“That’s why I’m supporting Breast Cancer Care’s Afternoon Tea fundraising campaign, so that the charity can continue to provide its vital support services, to those who need them, for free. I’d like to encourage everyone in the Borders to take part in the fundraiser this summer.
“When breast cancer continues to harm the lives of individuals and their families across the Borders, it is only right that we all do our bit to help.”
Samia al Qadhi, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Care, says: “We are extremely grateful to John Lamont MP for joining us to show his support for Breast Cancer Care’s Afternoon Tea. There has never been a more urgent need for Breast Cancer Care’s vital support services; breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed in their lifetime. I hope many local people sign up to host their own Afternoon Tea.”
