Borders MP John Lamont said: “This is extremely disappointing news for Kelso and the surrounding area. The closure of this branch betrays loyal customers who have supported the bank for years and rely on face-to-face services.
“This decision will be especially troubling to local residents who really need access to cash and in-person banking services such as small businesses, older residents, and vulnerable people.
“While I welcome the introduction of a community banker, it does not come close to making up for the loss of a permanent local branch. I have asked for an urgent meeting with the bank to ask how they intend to properly support the many customers who will be disadvantaged by this closure.”
