The winner of John Lamont’s Christmas Card Competition has been announced as 10 year old Stephanie Bird, from the P6 class at Wilton Primary School in Hawick.
Her design was chosen from a record 550 other entrants from 17 schools in the Borders. As the best entry, Stephanie won an electric scooter, chosen by her parents, which was presented to her in front of her classmates today.
The competition offered pupils from every primary and secondary school in Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire the chance to send in a design. From these entries John then judged a winner, and also picked out six runners-up whose designs feature on the back of the card.
The runners up were:
Lewis Fleming, P3, Broomlands Primary
Freya McKeown, P2/3, St Boswells Primary
Jasmine Carrielies, P6, Coldstream Primary
Savannah McGeown, P3, Howdenburn Primary
Ross Miller, P2, Westruther Primary
Oliver McClymont, P6, Yarrow Primary

"Running my annual Christmas card competition is undoubtedly one of my favourite jobs as an MSP and I always receive fantastic entries. This year was no different, in fact the job of judging was made particularly difficult because I received a record number of entries.
“The standard was once again incredibly high, and after looking through every entry, I picked Stephanie’s because I was impressed by her festive design and penguin themed card.
“My thanks go to each and every pupil who entered. It’s always great to see the creativity that we have in our schools. Well done to Stephanie and the runners up who were very close to winning.
“It was also very kind of Scottish Power and Lothian Estates to sponsor the competition.”
