Standing up for local services

I have always stood up for and championed local services.

I voted against the closure of Duns and Jedburgh Sheriff Courts. 

I have been at the forefront of the campaign for the reopening of Reston station, which has been delayed time and time again by the SNP Government.

I support the Council in it's desire to protect frontline services despite facing cuts of more than £13m from the SNP Government.



Borderlands funding announced in Spring Statement

The Chancellor, Philip Hammond MP is expected to announce the UK Government will be contributing £260m to the Borderlands Growth Deal.

The UK Government has been supporting Growth Deals across the UK since 2014. To date, this has included more than £1.3bn of investment in Scotland.

New mobile branch service for RBS given ‘cautious’ welcome

The Royal Bank of Scotland have published a new timetable for their mobile branch services in the Scottish Borders.

The timetable maintains all existing stops, with some towns in the Borders receiving an extra mobile banking service and the van stopping for longer in some towns.

Lamont welcomes funding for Borders Water Rescue Team

Local MP John Lamont has welcomed new funding awarded to Borders Water Rescue Team, the organisation which provides support for water based community activities, including common ridings water crossings.

‘Use it or lose it’ Post Office plea

As the Christmas rush comes to an end, Borderers are being urged to continue to use their local post offices and to spend money in the shops hosting them.
