It is important that the UK continues to invest in large public transport infrastructure projects in order to rebalance our economy across the UK and to combat climate change. Projects such as HS2 would, in my opinion, go some way to achieving these goals.

However, it is important that these projects are cost effective for taxpayers. Many constituents are rightfully wary of large infrastructure projects going over budget. Similarly, we must be careful not to cause damage through deforestation or habitat loss to our environment, even when we are seeking to improve public transport links.

That is why I welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement that will see the HS2 project reviewed in order to ensure that it remains the best use of taxpayers’ money.
